I have been a teacher at Timnath Elementary since 1999. I have taught mostly fifth and sixth grades while here. I also have taught third grade, fourth grade reading, and music, art, and p.e. to kindergarteners. I am not only invested in in Timnath as a teacher, but also as a former Timnath parent. Both my son and daughter are Timnath graduates. My son is now a junior in high school, and my daughter is in her last year of middle school.
I earned my bachelor's degree from Colorado State University in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis in early childhood education. I earned my elementary teaching license from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. And, I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a master's degree in curriculum and instruction.
I love coming to school each day. I truly enjoy working with the students of Timnath. When children are excited about learning, or when they master a new skill and feel pride in themselves, it makes it all worth it. I love learning and encouraging others to love learning, too.
So many to choose from... a few I enjoy are the Harry Potter series, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume, The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare, Moon Over Manifest by Claire Vanderpool, The Pigeon series by Mo Willems, Tuesday by David Wisener, Dear Mrs. LaRue by Mark Teague, and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff.
In my free time I love spending time with my family. We enjoy exploring Fort Collins, watching movies, playing board and card games, going out to eat, and traveling. In the summer I spend a lot of time gardening and love seeing (and eating) the fruits of my labor! A few other hobbies include card making, painting, and singing. I also really love exercising and my favorites include kickboxing, strength training, and spinning.
Timnath is a very close knit community and I feel very at home here. I think Timnath has amazing students, a fantastic staff, and strong parent involvement that makes our school a great place to be. We have some incredible traditions here, too. I especially love the Halloween parade down Main St. and the Thanksgiving Luncheon.
"In education, we are teaching children not to make a living, but to make a life." ~ William Allen White
"Do or do not. There is no try." ~ Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back
I currently teach all subject areas.
In my classroom we work to create a community of respect and learning. We develop expectations as a class and hold each other accountable. We have "growth mindsets." In my class we are there to help each other strive to do our best. We know that nothing is "too big." Our message to each other when a new challenge is presented is: "You've got this!"
